Open Water SCUBA Certification & Dive Medicine Level 1 Course
In this course, you will become an open water scuba diver as well as receive 16 hours of Dive Medicine didactic content. This course teaches you life saving assessments and treatments of water borne injuries and illnesses. MTAC is redefining the golden hour by providing you the skills to begin treatment at point of injury.

Who should take this course? This course is specifically designed with the healthcare professional in mind. Physicians, PAs, Nurses, EMTs, Fellows, Residents and Medical/Nursing students will enhance their knowledge and improve their assessment techniques unique to the austere environment.
Your only prerequisite is you must know how to swim and tread water and have the medical background to grasp the material presented.

- All rental equipment is provided that is required for training including tanks, weights, and air.
After you book the course and have selected the course schedule, MTAC will send you an email detailing all the information needed to participate in the course. We will then contact you to address any questions you have and to go over the email you received.
Let’s get started!
You will begin your dive education at your convenience, anywhere you an have Internet connection. Your course work will be taught online with proven professional materials and interactive instruction. The online portion will take approximately 12-15 hours to complete. Once you complete the e-learning, it is off to the beautiful Florida Keys and to MTAC to complete the schedule with your In-Water training and medical course curriculum to complete the course.
The didactic portion of the course will be taught by professionals that have actual field experience performing these medical procedures in these austere environments. It has been tested on military medical personnel learning from the same course curriculum, who often serve in emergency medical teams for the military after their training.

Please Note: There is a waiver and a medical questionnaire that will need to be completed and submitted before taking the course. If you have any health issues, you will need a medical release from your physician to be able to participate in the course.
Information about our other MTAC Courses
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) and Capt. Hook's MTAC. The WMS is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Capt. Hook’s MTAC has designed 3 levels of training specific to the water environment.
Level 1 is described above and is designed to take a person that can swim (or a diver that needs a refresher) and certify you as an Open Water SCUBA Diver. MTAC also adds in 16 hours of Dive Medicine didactic content. You get certified and learn detailed information about dive medicine in this course. The WMS designates this educational activity for a maximum of 16 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Each physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
The Level 2 course adds to the Level 1 and offers a SCUBA Water Rescue Diver certification. This course also provides 15 hours of Advanced Dive Medicine didactic content. The WMS designates this educational activity for a maximum of 15 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Each physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The Level 3 course is a Maritime Medicine and Prolonged Field Care course that is designed to teach post rescue medical techniques in the Austere environment. The WMS designates this educational activity for a maximum of 17.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Each physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
