St Eustatius - or ‘Statia as the locals call it - was once the busiest port in the world, often times making space for over 3,000 ships per day! In just a couple of hundred years, this small island nation changed hands over twenty times!

Now, this Caribbean paradise is home to some of the best diving in the hemisphere. Enjoy free nitrox diving as you explore deep canyons, incredible walls, shipwrecks over three hundred years old, and even a bit of historical collecting which is actually allowed by the marine park! It’s not uncommon to even see cannons while diving!

This eight square-mile tropical haven is just a hop over from St Marten, making it fairly accessible. ‘Statia has two volcanoes, but you don’t have to worry about that as one is extinct, and the other is dormant and shows zero signs of volcanic activity. Instead, spend your time being catered to by the dive staff in every possible way. You won’t have to lift a finger as they carry and care for your gear your entire trip.

It’s safe! ‘Statia is known for being one of the most welcoming places you can ever visit. Crime is almost non-existent as everyone knows everyone! Don’t forget to wave back to the locals who are more than happy to talk to you without the hassle of them trying to sell things to you. Quite the opposite, everyone just wants to make sure you enjoy this slice of paradise the entire time you’re there.

Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the historical blue beads as you dive. If you see one you’re not just allowed, but encouraged to keep them! The saying goes, if you find a blue bead, it means someone wants you to come back. If you don’t, you’re meant to come back until you find one.
