Nestled within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, Looe Key is renowned for its vibrant coral formations and diverse marine life. This initiative is a call to action for all ocean enthusiasts to contribute to preserving this marine paradise.

Join our expert dive team for a guided clean-up dive where you'll learn about the delicate reef ecosystem while actively removing marine debris that threatens this underwater haven. Our comprehensive dive includes pre-dive video on safe debris removal techniques and post-dive discussions about the impact of your efforts on the reef's health.

Whether you're an advanced diver that has never done a clean-up or a seasoned clean-up pro, your participation will directly enhance the reef's resilience and beauty and you will have participate in a true "Make A Difference"event. All collected debris is disposed of properly, contributing to ongoing scientific research and efforts to formulate better waste management policies.

Requirements

  • Must have Advanced Open Water Diver certification with at least 25 dives.
  • Each diver must be able to complete and pass a Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire.
  • Please review the video...Goal: Clean Seas Florida Keys Training - Recreational Divers.

Activity Level

  • Advanced. This is considered advanced due to the additional awareness a diver must have in the removal of weighted debris from the ocean floor.

Schedule 

  • Check-in time: 7:30AM
  • Departure times: 8:00AM
  • Duration: 4 hours (approx.)
  • Check-in location:  Captain Hook's Big Pine Key located at 29675 Overseas Highway, Big Pine Key FL 33043.
  • Departure point: Detailed check-in instructions - including address, Google map, and parking information will be included in your final confirmation email.

  • It is always a good idea to stop in to see us @ Capt. Hook's Looe Key Reef Adventures & Strike Zone Charters, located just off of U.S. 1 at Mile Marker 29.5.  The address is 29675 Overseas Highway, Big Pine Key, Florida 33043.  We love to see our adventurers before the event so we can get to know you, make friends and provide you with any detailed information about your trip.
  • As with any activity that requires Mother Nature to cooperate, this activity may be cancelled due to wind, weather, visibility and sea conditions in which case you will be allowed to reschedule (subject to availability), receive full refund, store credit or receive credit for a future event/dive trip.
  • Dive Preparedness

Please note: In the interest of your safety, please be aware of the following requirements:

  • In order to dive these clean-up dives, you must be an Advanced Diver with 25 logged dives. You must have a dive completed within the a year's timeframe and you must be able to pass a diver's medical.
  • If it has been more than one year since your last scuba dive and you otherwise qualify, you will not be able to participate in this clean-up dive. If you would like to prepare yourself to qualify for this dive you can book a dive previous to the clean-up dive. You will be required to dive your first dive accompanied by one of our complementary dive guide.
  • If it has been over 2 years since your last scuba dive, you will be required to take a Scuba Refresher course or Scuba Tune-Up.
